At the Farmers Market

After meeting I went to the Capital Region Farmers Market at EPIC, hoping to get some organic, free-range, pastured chicken from Melinda Corbett. It turns out that Melinda's Chicken is only at the market every other week, and this was the off-week. Bummer, but I'll go back next week and hopefully catch her then.

I didn't come away empty-handed, though. I bought Karen some apples to eat at work. The ones we've been getting from the supermarket haven't been very nice, so hopefully getting them "straight from the farm" will improve the quality. And I bought some Country Valley milk to try.

Then instead of heading home, I popped into Chocu Bai Jo, which was one of the shops on the list I made earlier in the week. They had a nice range of fruit and veggies, as well as some packaged organic groceries. I was tempted to buy some nashi pear jelly from Loriendale Orchard, but I didn't give in. Maybe after I've walked off the meat pies and hot chips from the football game. I'll definitely be dropping in there again.

Another option to add to the list is a new business called Hawley's Fresh Food. Andrew offers home delivery milk, bread, and fruit and veggie boxes, and based on the producers he's partnered with (including the Fairey's at Country Valley Milk), it looks like it's all high-quality stuff. At the moment he's only delivering down south, but I'll be keeping an eye out, and if he expands his delivery area this far north, I think we might give him a try.
