Grocery Shopping: 16 - 23 July

Grocery shopping was pretty short and simple this week. Karen took Friday off so that we could have a bit of a "family day." We'd originally planned to go see a movie, but the boys decided they'd rather go to Questacon (science and technology center). We were going to have lunch there as well, but the place was packed so we decided to leave a little early and eat elsewhere. Elsewhere ended up being Dickson, with Karen getting a lentil burger from My Rainbow Dreams, and the rest of us getting something from around the corner at Hudson's (nachos for the boys, a club sandwich and fries for me, and Tom getting food from everybody). The entire courtyard was in shadow, and it was a bit cold for al fresco, but we did it anyway, and enjoyed ourselves.

What does all that have to do with grocery shopping? Nothing, except that being out on Friday meant we didn't get groceries delivered until Saturday. So dinner Friday night turned into leftovers/pantry scavenging, which worked fine and stretched our food budget an extra day.

Combined with the fact that we got a double delivery from Woolworth's last week (long story, I might tell it another time), that meant that this week's total was under $200. About $36 (18%) of that was for Fake Food (potato chips, rice crackers, mini chocolate bars, yoghurt, chocolate pudding, etc.), which I think is pretty good. Most of the junk food is for Karen and/or the boys, except for some fruit-filled snack bars (like a giant fig newton, but with apple filling) for me. 75-80% Real Food is the target, so I'm happy with this week's result.
