Today ended up being a pretty shitty day in a lot of ways. Nothing horrible, and everything's cool now, but among other things, it meant that I didn't get much of my little "to do" list accomplished. Which just goes to show how fucking smart I was to pick GOING TO SLEEP as my goal for the day. That one I'm going to be able to do, no problem.
In terms of food, it turned out that the smoothie held me until lunch (I'm sure it didn't hurt that they were less than three hours apart), but while the soup I had for lunch tasted fine, it wasn't very filling, and I was hungry again before (WAY before) dinner. I'm not sure if that would've happened if I had been busy doing something other than cooking more soup, but as I stood there chopping veggies and throwing them in the stock pot, I became absolutely ravenous.
So when the soup was done, I ate a bowl. Essentially, these are just veggie soups and there's no reason why I can't eat as much of them as I want. So I am. With the Mexican soup I had for lunch, I added in a little sour cream, and for the one I had as a little mid-afternoon snack, I fried up a piece of bacon nice and crispy, and then crumbled it up and sprinkled on the top of the soup. It was excellent!
Then for dinner, I'd planned to have a steak and some roast vegetables. But by dinner time, I was pretty wrecked, and I'd been in the kitchen for hours cleaning out the fridge, washing dishes, chopping veggies, etc. and honestly, I just couldn't be bothered with more veggies. So for dinner, I had a nice BIG (500g/17oz) T-bone steak and a nice BIG beer (Kilkenny in a big 440ml/15oz cans), and it was an awesome meal. Meat and beer, what more do you need to help make a shitty day much better?
I fucked up and overcooked the steak, but the quality of the meat (thank you, Jordo!) was so high that it was still delicious. Damn, it was good! And the nutty part is, as absolutely freaking HUGE as that steak was, because I've been eating practically nothing but veggies all day, I could eat another almost as big and still not blow out my daily points.
But of course I'm not going to eat another steak because 1) I'm very pleasantly full; 2) I only bought one steak; and 3) I've got 8 minutes to finish this post and get my ass to bed.
So I'll finish up by saying that despite everything, when I finished dinner, I quickly cleaned up, put on my hat, and headed out the door for my daily walk. Better late than never, and that 50-minute walk makes it 13 days in a row. Sweet!
