I've been taking advantage of the holidays to go for some longer walks the last few days. Yesterday I walked down the old Well Station Road (the original road that serviced the farms around here) through the southern part of Harrison, past Mitchell, across the Federal Highway, and into Watson. I ended up at the Watson shops, where I'd planned to enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the cafes there before calling Karen to come pick me up and take me home.
Unfortunately, that whole plan was screwed up when I realized that I'd forgotten to take my phone. So instead of enjoying a coffee, I ended up buying a bottle of water, then using the change to call home on a pay phone. Yeah, a freakin' pay phone!
Luckily it all worked out okay in the end, and my good wife arrived and I rode home in comfort and style. And air conditioning.
Then today I walked into Gungahlin, dropped off some overdue books at the library. Then after I'd done that, I went to Gloria Jean's and grabbed a latte and a comfy chair and chilled out for a little while. I'd brought along my iPad, so I had a toy to play with while I drank my coffee, but I had thought they had free wifi there, and it turns out they don't. Bummer. I'm really hoping there's a cafe in town with free wifi besides McCafe. I'll try again next week.
After I finished the coffee, I headed home and ended up with about 80 minutes of walking. That's nearly 3 hours in 2 days, and I really feel a helluva lot better for it. It's hard to believe what a huge difference it makes.
