Weigh-in: 5 March, 2011

Today's Weight: 146.1 kg (322 lbs)

Change: -1.3 kg (2.8 lbs)

Total Loss: 49.4 kg (108.9 lbs)

A good result today, and I think a pretty damned good result for the whole experiment. 9.4 kilos, or 20.7 pounds, lost in a month. The primary claim of Ferriss' 4 Hour Body Slow Carb diet is that you can "lose 20 pounds in 30 days without exercise".  Well, I lost the 20 pounds. Could I have done it without exercise? Maybe so, but I'm perfectly happy with my decision to exercise as well as change my eating habits.

One thing that I've learned from this experiment is that my diet was overloaded with carbs, and falling short in terms of vegetables. So that'll be something to keep an eye on as I add the carbs back into my meals.

It'll be interesting to see if the weight loss continues at roughly the same rate, as long as I keep the calories about the same and keep exercising, whether I'm eating the faster-burning carbs or not. I expect that will be the case, but I don't think that means the whole slow carb thing is a waste of time. I think if you don't want to worry about tracking your calories, then one easy way to keep the calories down is to avoid sweets (including fruit and fruit juice), and starchy vegetables. Because if you're mostly eating just meat, eggs, and vegetables, you're going to have to put in some serious effort to get fat. I'm sure it can be done, but you're going to have to work at it.

So after trying it for a month, I'm saying that the Slow Carb diet worked for me, and I think it'll probably work for most people, too.
