Yeah, I Ate Some Fucking Potato Chips

I can't remember if I've mentioned this in a previous blog post, a couple of weeks ago, Karen ordered a HUGE load of potato chips in one of the grocery shopping orders. She thought she was ordering small bags that James and his friends could take to the movies with them, but instead she ordered big "family size" 6 ounce bags. Like, eight of 'em or something. So there is a LOT of junk food in the house!

Not that I have to eat it, of course. And mostly, I haven't. But them BBQ potato chips have been on my mind a lot lately. And today I decided to deal with it. So I ate some. Two servings worth. 274 calories, 17.2 grams of fat, 24.8 grams of carb. 5.5 Points. So they're not exactly health food, and not exactly the kind of thing a guy ought to be eating when he's trying to lose 10 kg in 5 weeks. But what the fuck. They tasted pretty damned good. They've got the fat, the salt and the sweet, so they push all the right buttons.

And to make up for it, Tom and I went for an extra-long walk this afternoon. We walked (well, I walked; Tom rode in his stroller and talked, and talked, and talked, and then slept) for an hour and a half, which apparently means that I burned 620 calories and earned 7 activity Points. So I had an enjoyable treat and then I put in extra effort (I'll still go for another walk tonight after dinner) to work it off. The way I see it, that's the key. Pay attention to what you're eating, and make sensible decisions instead of just eating whatever, whenever.

Of course I'd be perfectly happy to eat Real Potato Chips, either deep fried or baked at home. But I need a good potato slicer for that, because I've tried it before with a food processor, with the slicer on our box grater, cutting them by hand, and just about everything else I could think of, but it's hard to get them all the same thickness.

Hmmm...I just found an Oxo mandoline slicer for $25 that might do the trick. I'm going to have to add it to my Kitchen Gadget Wishlist.
