Good Friday

I didn't make it to meeting this morning because Karen had to take the two older boys for some kind of tryout for swimming lessons, and it would all be a lot easier if I looked after Tom. I'll get dressed later and do a home weigh-in, and that'll have to do for this week.

I made an awesome omelet for breakfast yesterday. Two eggs, cherry tomatoes, basil, oregano, and chives from the garden, and a little bacon and cheese. Very nice way to start the day!

Then I made a quick trip up to the shops to grab a few essentials (bread, rice, baking powder and beer), then hung out at home for the rest of the day to help manage the horde of kids (Jack and James both had friends over) and to basically sit glued to Twitter to follow the developments in Egypt.

I'm not sure why I did it, but The Beer O The Day was Budweiser. I can't remember the last time I had it. Bill and Anne bought some for a Thanksgiving or Xmas or something back when I first moved here, and I vaguely recall buying some for a 4th of July party, maybe 7 or 8 years ago, but in any case, it's a rare event.

And every time I do it, I remember why. It's not that it's a bad beer, it's just that it has such little flavor and depth that it's just not much of a beer at all. But it is what it is -- a mild-tasting American lager that's drinkable, but not particularly interesting or exciting. But on a gorgeous, sunny summer day, I kept it ice-cold and it was fine, as long as I didn't think too hard about all the better beers I could've been drinking.

Then for dinner, I did a quick fried rice with some chicken breast, peas, corn, carrots, onions, etc. It was quick and easy, tasty, and the kids enjoyed it. Then we watched a movie before the boys went to sleep out in the trampoline tent.

All in all, a pretty good day. Especially that omelet. Damn, that was good!
