Pizza Recovery Process

Everything's going pretty good so far this week. I really feel like I've settled into a pretty good pattern in terms of eating, but I still haven't worked in any sort of exercise routine. Not that I think walking is necessarily going to do much for me in terms of weight loss, but I think it would be a good idea just from a general health point of view. I mean, I'm a lot more active in general than I was before, but big chunks of my day still involve sitting on my ass in front of the computer. A half-hour walk in the morning and another after dinner would probably be a good idea.

But in terms of eating, I feel like I'm grooving along nicely. I'm not really eating breakfast any more (almost never hungry in the morning), or another way to say it would be that I've moved my daily bacon and scrambled eggs meal to lunch-time. It's quick and easy, I like it, and it takes care of the problem of having to plan what to eat for lunch each day.

For dinners I'm generally just eating whatever I cook for the kids, and if it's too carb-heavy I'll eat less of it and add a salad or some veggies. Like tonight, they're having tacos, but I'll have a grilled chicken breast, maybe some refried beans, and a big salad. Tomorrow night, they're having sausages, potatoes, and green beans, and I'll have the same, with more beans and less potatoes. Wednesday, they're having salisbury steak, pasta, and mixed veggies, and I'll have the same, but with more veggies and either no pasta or a small serving.

I usually have a can of Fake Zero with my meals (except when I'm at work), and one Atkins Day Break Cappuccino Nut bar after dinner. My other indulgence is one or two Kopiko sugar free coffee drops during the day. With so many daily treats, I don't feel like I'm dieting, or depriving myself, or anything like that.

This week has been interesting because of Karen's birthday dinner. After eating a pizza and two cupcakes that night, I weighed in the next morning and had lost 0.8 kg (1.7 lbs) in the past 24 hours. Then I stayed there for the next two daily weigh-ins. And finally, this morning, the number changed and I'm down another 0.6 kg (1.3 lbs). If it took a day for the effects of the pizza and cupcakes to show up on the scales, I can understand that. But for the effect to continue for another 24 hours is surprising. It makes me wonder what sorts of time-frames are involved in processing and burning the calories in food after it's been consumed.
