Today was another rainy day (so much for that "No Rain on Sunday" thing I said a few days ago, huh), and again I didn't go for a walk. In fact, I'm not even sure I ever set foot outside the house. Which isn't ideal, but then neither is walking in the rain. But again, instead of walking I did a few more Wii Fit sessions -- 1 hr and 45 min in total, broken up into 15 and 30 minute blocks. Basically, whenever I had a bit of time, I set up the Balance Board and ran through a few different programs.
I mostly do the cardio -- jogging, stepping, and hula hooping (yeah, I know), but also some strength training (lunges, leg extensions, parallel stretch) and some of the balance games (soccer heading, ski slalom, tightrope, etc.). I haven't tried any of the yoga. Not a big fan of yoga. And even if I was, I doubt I could do much (if any) of it anyway.
But there's plenty of stuff that I can do with Wii Fit, which is pretty cool, since my hernia makes it hard to do a lot of exercise. And after working up a pretty serious sweat this way, I can see that my problem with walking is that I'm not pushing myself hard enough. Most of the time, I'm not working up much of a sweat, or even breathing heavy. So I'm either going to have to turn it up a few notches, or maybe playing Wii Fit (and I'm starting to look at some of the other exercise-type games for the Wii, especially the ones that use the Balance Board.
But at the end of the day, I guess the main thing is that, after a couple of weeks of not getting the results I was looking for, I'm trying something a little different. If it works, that's great. If it doesn't, at least I've had a bit of fun playing computer games and calling it exercise.
Oh yeah, and just to help keep track, today was my 14th day in a row with at least a half an hour of exercise. My previous record was 15. Another way to look at it is that I've exercised for 29 of the last 30 days. That's pretty fucking cool.
