It was shopping on a budget this week, so this is what I came up with. Lots of mince (ground beef), and something a little different - organs. Specifically, lamb liver. I've never eaten it, and at this point my plan is to serve it up to the kids and see if they like it, and then tell them what it is after they've tried it.

I should probably have something on hand as a back-up, because to be honest, but hopefully it'll at least be edible. I've never cooked it, and in fact I've never even tried it. I've eaten beef liver a few times, but not in thirty years or so. Mom cooked it a few times back in the late 70s or early 80s when she (and her sister, Hazle) got on some kind of health kick (possibly the Feingold Diet), but she hated it so much herself that she gave up after a few attempts.

But now I'm going to give it another try. Organs are very nutritionally dense and relatively cheap, and I've been reading a lot of blogs, and while it seems to be an acquired taste, a lot of the people who've done it really seem to love it. I figure the least I can do is give it a try.

In other news, I've been seriously unmotivated this week. It seems like every time I get sick, I let it throw me off track for a while. Walking is difficult because it's been raining like crazy, but I could either walk and get wet, or I've got the Wii Fit, but I haven't been doing that, either. And not only am I not getting exercise, but because I've switched from listening to music while I walk to listening to podcasts, I'm way behind on a bunch of my favorite podcasts (As It Happens, Ideas, The Bob and Elvis Show, Planet Money, Point of Inquiry, Citizen Radio, Skepticality, This American Life, Democracy Now, Free Talk Live, and heaps more).

Yeah, I listen to a lot of podcasts, and yeah, it's a pretty eclectic mix. I just can't get enough of 'em. I rarely watch TV these days, but I can find and download some great podcasts that focus on just about anything I'm interested in. I listen to them when I'm walking, when I'm doing housework, in the car, and pretty much any time I've got time to kill. If you haven't tried 'em, you really ought to give 'em a try.
